“ Amazing Fresh Portuguese BBQ – A Must-Try! Charcoal BBQ in Berkeley Heights is an absolute gem! It’s a small, cozy restaurant located right by the train station—literally, the train runs right behind it! My mom and I discovered this place through the To Good To Go app, where you can get discounted food. The photos looked great, so we decided to give it a try. From the moment we arrived, we were hit with the most incredible aroma—you could smell the delicious BBQ cooking from outside. The restaurant itself is very cute and welcoming, though it does have a large step at the entrance, so it's not wheelchair accessible. The owner, who also cooks and serves the food, was incredibly kind and hospitable. For To Good To Go, they offer a set meal of half a chicken with rice and veggies, and it was absolutely delicious! We arrived 10 minutes early, and they were still cooking our meal fresh right in front of us. Everything was hot, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We loved the food so much that we ordered again the very next day—and it was just as amazing! The menu offers a great variety of dishes and desserts, with prices ranging from about $5 to $33. There’s also a selection of drinks and coffee. One of the highlights was the fresh-cut fries—she chopped the potatoes right in front of us, fried them, and salted them to perfection. The service was friendly, the food was fresh, and the flavors were incredible. I highly recommend Charcoal BBQ and will definitely be coming back! 10/10! ”

“ Portuguese Food is not disappointing and portions are bigger then most places even take left overs home. Always will return to this place and it’s a cool location because the New Jersey transit come thru ( Berkeley Heights train stop ). Amazing to watch the train to pass by while eating. Service can be super busy but worth every minute to wait for your food. The staff is super nice and inside feels like mom&pop restaurant ( could be warm due to humidity of grilling inside but food is worth the bites ). ”

“ Cozy restraunt with astonoshing portions for the price. I had a delicious soup and bbq pork ribs. There was so much I had to ask for a to go pan. One of the rare times I tipped the max amount and felt like it wasnt enough. Highly reccomend eating in this is the type of food that just tastes better fresh. ”

“ Ate here for the first time and everything was amazing. Our server Christine was the best, super polite, friendly/funny and very helpful. I ask for a lot of recommendations when I go out and Christine did not miss. The food was incredible — the truffle gnocchi bites and short rib gnocchi is to die for. The food is very well priced and the portions are a good size. The restaurant and atmosphere itself is beautiful. This is definitely a spot to come to especially more then once. ”

“ Charkoal Portuguese Grill is conveniently located at the Berkley Heights train station. This first visit for takeout proved to be really good experience. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp, which came with Rice & French Fries. The rice tasted freshly made and was plentiful; the Garlic Shrimp was well seasoned and the aroma alone made me eager to taste. Once I got home with my order I couldn’t wait to dive in. The food was still hot and ready for me to devour. I enjoyed the meal immensely, but could have done without the fries because as always, when fries are covered in an aluminum pan, they lose their crispness; other than that, everything was great; I will most definitely go back & try other menu items. ”
